Widows for Peace through Democracy
Widows for Peace through Democracy (WPD) is an international NGO, registered as a UK Charity and enjoying ECOSOC status at the UN.
We are the umbrella organisation for many partner widows’ organisations in developing and conflict afflicted countries. We work for the empowerment of widows and the elimination of the discrimination and violence that many millions of them experience daily.
Our mission is to insure that widows of all ages, irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, caste, class, or nationality, are protected from such discrimination and violence, and can enjoy their full human rights as equal and valuable members of society.
Our vision is to see, in all regions where widowhood is a problem, the establishment of national federations of widows’ associations, in order that the collective voices of widows are heard by governments, and by the UN, so as to inform the formulation of national and international policies, through raising awareness not only of their needs but also of their crucial roles as sole providers for their families, and key social and economic players in their countries for peace , good government development and justice.
Charitable Objectives
To promote the equality of women, in particular widows, where they suffer discrimination through law or practice by providing information, advocacy and support services to promote their rights and entitlements as equal citizens.
